Instructions
Place the Kinect sensor either above or below the television in line with the center of the screen and within 6 inches of the television.
Connect the Kinect's USB end of the cable into the USB port on your console's rear, next to the video output ports. Original Xbox 360 owners, colored white, must also plug the Kinect's AC power adapter into a wall outlet. The Xbox 360 S console, colored black, powers the Kinect on its own.
Turn on the Xbox 360, and insert the Kinect's software update disc. Follow the on-screen prompts to update your console with the Kinect software. If you have Xbox Live, you can instead log in to Xbox Live to receive the necessary updates. Once the update installs, your system resets and a Using Kinect screen appears.
Follow the Using Kinect prompts to finish the setup. The prompts explain the basics of using the Kinect, such as selecting menu items, play space and gestures.
