How to Mute the Kinect Chat Mic

Aside from adding motion controls to your console, the Xbox 360's Kinect sensor comes with a built-in microphone, allowing you to chat with other gamers on Xbox Live. This feature is enabled by default, eliminating the need for a headset, but it does not come consequence-free. For instance, if you have multiple people in your living room, the Kinect will pick up their conversations and relay that to other Xbox Live players during game-play. Disable the Kinect voice chat function to prevent virtual eavesdropping.

Hold your one arm against your right side and raise and bend your other arm at a 45-degree angle and wave your hand from side to side at the device until the Kinect Hub opens.

    • 3

Hold your hand on the white message bubble icon at the bottom left. A red circle with a cross through the middle appears over the icon, indicating chat has been disabled.
