Halo Wars
The award-winning "Halo" franchise has been around since the original Xbox. "Halo Wars" is its first journey away from the FPS (first-person shooter) model and into the RTS genre. Available only for the Xbox 360, it is not the deepest RTS, but its polished game play and simple controls make it highly accessible. Newcomers to RTS games will love the presentation and veterans will enjoy the solid game play mechanics.
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II
"Battle for Middle Earth II" was the first RTS game developed for the Xbox 360. You can choose to command the forces of good or Sauron's dark army, in a battle for control of Middle Earth. This game is a must for both Lord of the Rings fans and RTS enthusiasts, as the game play quickly becomes addictive. There is a free demo available on the Xbox Live Marketplace if you are unsure this game is for you.
Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath
"Kane's Wrath" is a stand-alone expansion that improves on the original "Command & Conquer 3" series. This is the prototypical RTS game -- it represents the genre as well as any game can. The control system has been streamlined and the single-player campaigns offer more options over the original. This is a must for RTS veterans who appreciate base-building and rushing your opponents.
Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
The "Civilization" series is famous for its complexity and intricate battles, and fanatics of the series will boast about its incredibly addictive game play. "Civilization Revolution" tweaks the PC platform into a version that is more compatible with console gaming. It sacrifices a bit of depth, however the same award-winning formula found on the PC version is replicated here. This game is infamous for causing late-night play sessions that extend into the early morning.
