How to Unlock the Extra 20 Cards for a Deck on Magic: The Gathering for Xbox Live

Each deck in "Magic: the Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers" for the Xbox 360 initially contains 60 cards, but you can unlock new cards to put into each deck by winning games while you are playing that deck. When you unlock new cards for you deck, the game automatically adds more basic lands to keep a good balance of lands and spells. If you want to unlock all of the cards for a deck quickly, you can play against virtual opponents who are easy to defeat.

Instructions

  1. Unlocking Cards By Playing

      Press "Start" at the title screen, press "Y" to access the deck manager, and then highlight the deck you want to unlock cards for. Press "A" to select that deck, and then press "B" to return to the main menu.

      Highlight "Play Magic: The Gathering," press "A," highlight "Campaign" and press "A" again.

      Scroll down to the second duel in the list, which is the first duel against Elspeth Tirel, and press "A." This is one of the easiest duels in the game, as Elspeth has trouble getting rid of your creatures, and no big creatures of her own to threaten your life total.

      Defeat Elspeth in the duel to unlock a new card for your deck. You can win a duel by damaging Elspeth until her life total is zero or by making her draw a card when her library is empty. When you win the duel, you will unlock a new card for your deck.

      Press "A" to continue, and then scroll up to the duel with Elspeth and start that duel again. Each time you win, you will unlock a new card for your deck until you have unlocked all of the cards that are available.

    Buying Unlock Keys Using Deck Keys

      Press "Start" at the title screen, press "Y" to access the deck manager, and then highlight the deck you want to unlock cards for. Press "X" to edit that deck.

      Highlight the "Unlock Deck" option near the bottom of the screen, and then press "A." If you get a message telling you that you don't have a deck key, highlight "Yes" and press "A" to open the Xbox Live Marketplace.

      Highlight "Confirm Purchase," and then press "A" to purchase a deck key. Each deck key costs 80 Microsoft Points, which will be deducted from your Xbox Live account.

      Highlight "Unlock Deck," and then press "A" twice to unlock all of the cards for your deck.
