Does My Xbox Have an HDMI Port?

Your Xbox or Xbox 360 contains a single audio and video port, known as the A/V port, that accepts a cable which splits apart audio and video streams and outputs the streams to your standard- or high-definition television. Your gaming machine may also contain a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) port; this port transmits both audio and video streams in a single cable. Not all Xbox systems contain a HDMI port, however.
  1. HDMI Port Location

    • Turn off your Xbox and turn it around so the back of the device is facing you. Look for a group of ports on the right side of the device, if your gaming system is an Xbox 360. If the gaming system is an Xbox, look for a group of ports on the back of the device. Look for the wording ̶0;HDMI̶1; above a port that looks similar to a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port but bigger. This is the HDMI port. If you don̵7;t see the wording or port, your Xbox doesn̵7;t contain an HDMI port.

    Availability

    • HDMI cables are available from computer, electronics and retail stores, as well as online electronics outlets. The cables are also available from online auction websites and directly from Microsoft, the manufacturer of the Xbox and Xbox 360, through the company̵6;s Microsoft Store. The Microsoft Store also sells game controllers and other accessories for the Xbox and Xbox 360.

    Connecting the System

    • Turn off your television, if it is on, and turn it around so the back of the device is facing you. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the ̶0;HDMI̶1; port on the back of your Xbox and plug the other end of the cable into the ̶0;HDMI̶1; port on the back of your television. Turn on both your television and Xbox. Press the ̶0;Line,̶1; ̶0;Input̶1; or similar wording button on your television̵7;s front panel or remote control to access controls for activating the HDMI port. Use the navigation buttons on your television̵7;s front panel or remote to select ̶0;HDMI.̶1; You will now see the "Xbox Dashboard Welcome" screen or Xbox logo on your television. If there is a DVD or game disc in the Xbox̵7;s drive, you will see the DVD or game̵6;s start screen instead of the "Xbox Dashboard Welcome" screen or logo.

    Warning

    • Do not connect both an HDMI cable and an A/V cable to your Xbox at the same time. This will result in the device not sending any audio and video signals to your television and can possibly damage the device. Only use one type of connection at a time.
