What Is Jurassic: The Hunted on the Xbox 360 About?

"Jurassic: The Hunted" was released in November, 2009 by Activision for the Xbox 360, and tells an entirely new story not based on any of the previous films. Within the game, you must battle dinosaurs who inhabit an island lost in time, fighting for your survival along the way. The more you know about "Jurassic: The Hunted," the easier it will be to determine if it's the right game for you.
  1. The Plot

    • "Jurassic: The Hunted" starts off in 1983, with an expedition team, lead by Dr. Sayrus, investigating the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle. The entire team ends up vanishing, causing the daughter of Dr. Sayrus to hire a security firm to investigate the disappearance roughly 30 years later. The new team flies into the Bermuda Triangle only to have their plane struck down by a storm. The members of the security team parachute out of the plane and get sucked into energy portals. You control Craig Dylan, a member of the security team, who ends up on a mysterious island inhabited by lethal dinosaurs.

    The Game

    • The Xbox 360 version of "Jurassic: The Hunted" is a fps (first person shooter) that contains 14 levels of dinosaur-hunting action. Craig Dylan's main goal in the game is to stay alive, find a way off the island, and find out what happened to the rest of the security firm. Throughout the game, you, controlling Craig Dylan, use a variety of weapons to fight off the dinosaurs, including a civil war rifle, a crossbow with exploding arrows and a pistol. Guns and ammunition are spread throughout the levels. The dinosaurs are either already on the island or teleport in from a mysterious location.

    The Adrenaline Burst

    • While fighting off dinosaurs on the island, you can make Craig Dylan enter "Adrenaline Burst" mode. This allows time to slow down while also giving Dylan the ability to see the inner workings of the dinosaurs. For example, while in "Adrenaline Burst" mode, you can see the hearts, lungs and brain of the creatures. You can then aim directly at one of these vital areas for a quicker kill. You can be in "Adrenaline Burst" mode for up to 30 seconds of game play at a time.

    The Reviews

    • The reviews for "Jurassic: The Hunted" were mixed. Jeff Haynes of Ign.com gave the game an overall rating of 6.5 out of 10, stating that while the game is fun at times, it ultimately becomes too repetitive. He also remarked that the graphics were "bland all around," save the dinosaurs and the foliage which looked "pretty good." However, he did state that "Survivor Mode" -- in which you battle with endless waves of dinosaurs until you die -- is challenging and gives the game extra lasting appeal. Metacritic.com gave the game an overall rating of 60 out of 100, saying it's worth a rental, but not a purchase.
