War Time
If historical wars are your cup of tea, the Xbox 360 offers a variety of titles to entertain you. Both "Call of Duty 2" and "Call of Duty 3" take place during World War II. The game "Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway" also uses World War II as a backdrop to the action. If modern-day warfare seems more exciting to you, check out "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare," which brings the action to modern day. "Call Of Duty: Black Ops" also takes place in modern times and features a bonus version known as "Zombie Mode," in which you can either fight online or with a friend in split-screen, against waves of killer zombies.
Another Time
The Xbox 360 offers numerous first-person shooter titles that take place in either another universe, or far into the future. "BioShock" takes place in an alternate universe back in 1960 in the fictional city of Rapture. The sequel -- "BioShock 2" -- takes place 10 years after the events of the first game. The action is once again set in the fictional city of Rapture. "Battlefield 2142" takes place in the year 2142. Players must either fight for the European Union or the Pan Asian Coalition, two military superpowers battling for survival. The game "Aliens: Colonial Marines" allows you to do battle against the evil aliens first introduced by Ridley Scott in the 1979 film "Alien."
The Classics Return
The Xbox 360 reintroduces games that have been in existence for years, although not always in first-person shooter format. "Castle Wolfenstein" gets the first-person shooter treatment and pits you against evil Nazis dabbling in super technology and supernatural forces. The classic game "Doom" -- first released in 1993 -- has had a few sequels since, with "Doom 4" soon to be released on the Xbox 360. Released in June of 2011, "Duke Nukem Forever" once again lets you take control of the wise-cracking hero Duke in his quest to save the world.
Hello Halo
One of the most popular franchises for the Xbox -- and the Xbox 360 -- is "Halo," which pits you against the evil alien Covenant, who views humanity as an insult to its gods. The franchise first launched on the Xbox -- "Halo" and "Halo 2" -- with "Halo 3" marking the first entry for the Xbox 360. For those who just cannot get enough of the "Halo" universe, "Halo 4" is scheduled to be released on December 30, 2012. "Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary" was the last entry released on the Xbox 360, debuting on November 15, 2011.
