How to Mount the Kinect Camera Above the TV

You can mount your Kinect camera using a specialized wall mount, or if you have a flat panel television, you can purchase a television mount. The Kinect, used with the Xbox 360, is the first full-motion video game accessory that tracks players movements without the use of a remote control. The placement of the Kinect camera is important to ensure the camera has a clean, direct line of sight and that it can rotate a full 40 degrees of yaw. You can purchase Kinect mounting systems from stores that sell video game accessories.

Instructions

  1. Wall Mount

    • 1

Mark the location on the wall where you want to mount the Kinect. This should be centered directly above the TV, but not so high that the Kinect can't detect the motion of the players.

    • 2

Place the wall mount plate against the wall in the identified location. Draw a dot where the screw holes are located. If this isn't in a wall stud, pre-drill four holes into the dots using a 1/8-inch bit. Place the drywall anchors in each pre-drilled hole and hammer them into place.

    • 3

Place the wall mount plate against the wall and screw the four screws through the mount holes into the anchors using the Phillips screwdriver or drill.

    • 4

Squeeze the two buttons on the left and right side of the clip and place the Kinect on top and release the buttons to mount the Kinect to the clip.

    • 5

Slide the wall mount piece over the wall mount plate.

    • 6

Pull the lever on the Kinect mounting clip back and slide the Kinect onto the wall mount until you hear a click. This lets you know the Kinect camera is locked in place on the wall mount.

    TV Mount

    • 7

Slide the TV mount legs into the mount. Push the knob on each foot in until the legs are equal in length. This length is adjustable after Kinect has been mounted.

    • 8

Identify which of the five packets of screws works with your television. Locate the mounting system on the back of your television. This is usually identified by four threaded holes. Screw in a screw from each packet by hand until you find the style that works with your TV.

    • 9

Place the TV mount on top of the TV with the legs behind the TV. Line the legs up with the four screw holes on the back of the TV. Insert the screws and tighten them using a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 10

Assemble the Kinect mounting clip using the bottom slide clip, the top mounting part and the screw in the bag labeled ̶0;UNC ¼ -20.̶1; Place the front lip of the bottom slide clip on toward the front of the TV. Place the top mounting part on top of the clip with the lever on the top mounting part on the back. Attach the two pieces using the enclosed screw and a Phillips screwdriver. The two pieces will fit loosely together and the parts will slide.

    • 11

Squeeze the two buttons on the left and right side of the clip and place the Kinect on top and release the buttons to mount the Kinect to the clip.

    • 12

Pull the lever on the Kinect mounting clip back and slide the Kinect and attached clip onto the TV mount until you hear a click. This lets you know the Kinect camera is locked in place on the TV mount.
