How to Softmod an Original Xbox With Agent Under Fire

The Xbox was released in 2000, as Microsoft's first entry into the console gaming front. Its technical specs, similarity to Windows personal computers and low cost made it an ideal platform for homebrew and unofficial fan programs. In order to use most of these programs, the Xbox must be "softmodded," using software manipulation rather than a soldered chip to modify the underlying operating system of the console.

Things You'll Need

  • James Bond 007: Agent under Fire DVD
  • WaffleTools_007_1224.zip
  • Action Replay or Gameshark Xbox

Connect the Action Replay or Gameshark USB Memory writer to your computer, then connect an Xbox Memory card to the USB adapter. Download Softmod Pack and extract "WaffleTools_007_1224.zip," then open the Action Replay or Gameshark software and add this zip file to the memory card. Click "Exit," then attach the memory card to the Xbox.

Insert the 007: Agent Under Fire game into the Xbox, turn the system on, then select "Load Game." Load the "save" on the memory card, then wait a few seconds for the custom program to load.

Choose the first option, "Install UXE Package," to install the softmod. Once it is done installing, the system will reboot into a new menu, reflecting the alteration to the OS. Games can be played normally through this interface.
