Aimbot Cheats for Halo

Wherever competition exists, some people try to find an edge. Baseball has steroids, Sumo has match fixing and the online game Halo has Aimbots. An Aimbot is a user-made program that gives a player the ability to aim directly at an opponent's head in the game with minimal effort or input. The "head-shots" inflict maximum damage, a one-shot kill in some cases, providing a significant competitive advantage in matches. Widely available programs have been created for Halo 1, 2, 3 and Reach. The use of Aimbot modules, however, is considered a form of cheating by most people in the online gaming community.
  1. Location

    • Aimbots are considered open gaming content, which means they can be created, modified and shared by independent users throughout the online community. Most often, these small programs that run alongside the parent program, Halo, are found in online forums that focus on Halo strategy and game play. An Aimbot is specific to a version of Halo and to a playing device, such as a computer, Xbox and Xbox 360.

    Installation

    • After locating and downloading an Aimbot program, clicking the "setup.exe" file initiates the program's setup on the computer. Aimbots for the personal computer version of Halo usually automatically detect the game on the computer and adjust the necessary settings. Using Xbox and Xbox 360 requires a universal serial bus (USB) flash drive to transfer the files to the gaming console. Most Aimbot downloads include a "Read Me" file that explains the specific setup and transfer processes for individual modules.

    Features

    • Aimbots have many features that are helpful in Halo. For example, they automatically scan the user's field of vision to acquire targets quickly. They also have an auto-firing function that activates when an opponent's head is targeted. Aimbots allow adjustment of the scanning range to specify the minimum and maximum distances at which an Aimbot trigger an auto-fire. They allow revision of a Halo player's appearance, color and armor. Aimbots also let players adjust the clipping parameters to walk through walls and defy gravity.

    Consequences

    • Because many people view Aimbot modules' use as cheating, using them has consequences. According to some gamers, the major advantage gained by an Aimbot's auto-aim function skews the even playing field intended by Halo's creators. Microsoft has gone as far as to issue lifetime bans from Xbox Live to players who use Aimbot modules in online matchmaking.
