How to Change the Master Chief to a Grunt in Halo 1

Microsoft's "Halo: Combat Evolved," more commonly called Halo One, was released in November 2001 for the Xbox console. Rated M for "Mature," this game is a first-person shooter that pits humans against the Covenant, an enemy alien race inhabiting the game's namesake halo ring world. While the design puts players in the shoes of the master chief, it is possible--though not easy--to modify the game, enabling you to play as a grunt instead. This tutorial is best attempted by players who already have some experience with plug-ins and modifications.

Click on the collision trigger and extract (recursive). Open the "Foot" group and extract the walk sound (recursive).

    • 4

Open the map you in which you want to import the grunts, such as Rat Race.

Open the "Mode" group. Highlight the cyborg model. Inject the meta that you extracted earlier (recursive). Open the "Antr" group and import the animation trigger. All "snd!" references will change to "unknown" in the dependency swapper. Select all and swap them to "Nulled out." Inject the "Foot" group as before (recursive).

    • 6

Navigate to and swap the cyborg_mp biped with the grunt model. Change the camera's standing height to "0,38" and the crouching height to "0,28."

    • 7

Copy the modified file to your Xbox. Launch to play as a grunt.
