  Locate the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox 360 console. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the rear Ethernet port on the Xbox 360 console. Slide the Ethernet cable into the port until the plastic clicks into place. Gently pull on the cable to confirm that it is secure. Insert the opposite end of the Ethernet cable into a high-speed Internet modem.

  Turn on the Xbox 360 console. Allow the console to fully load. The dashboard will appear. Press and hold the "Xbox Guide" button located on the center of the controller. The controller will power on.

  Using the controller, scroll to the "My Xbox" tab. A set of options will appear. Scroll to the button labeled "Sign In" and press the "A" button to select it. Two options will appear. Select "Create Profile." A window will appear.

  Enter a profile name into the blank text field, then click the "Start" button. You will be redirected to the "Choose an Avatar" screen. Select an avatar from the list of available avatars. Follow the on-screen instructions to customize your avatar. Once you are satisfied with your avatar, select "Save and Exit." The "Xbox Dashboard" will appear.

  Press the "Xbox Guide" button located in the center of the controller. A window will appear. Scroll down and select "Join Xbox Live." A window will appear prompting you that the Xbox will connect to the Internet. Select "Continue." The "Xbox Live Account Wizard" will appear.

  Follow through the "Xbox Live Account Wizard" instructions. Upon completion you will be asked to restart your system. Press the power button located on the font of the Xbox 360 console. The console will shut off. Wait about thirty seconds, then press the button again to turn the console back on. Allow the console to fully load. The dashboard will appear. Turn on your controller.

  Using the controller, scroll to the "My Xbox" tab. A set of options will appear. Scroll to the button labeled "Sign In" and press the "A" button to select it. The newly created gamer profile will appear. Select it. The account will sign into "Xbox Live." A window will appear prompting you that you have received a free month of Xbox Live for creating a new account.

  Turn on the Xbox 360 console. Allow the console to fully load. The dashboard will appear. Press and hold the "Xbox Guide" button located on the center of the controller. The controller will power on.

  Using the controller, scroll to the "My Xbox" tab. A set of options will appear. Scroll to the button labeled "Sign In" and press the "A" button to select it. Sign into the gamer profile that is currently registered for Xbox Live service.

  Press the "Xbox Guide" button located on the center of the controller. The "Xbox Guide" will appear. Scroll over to the "Marketplace" tab. A list of options will appear. Scroll down and select "Redeem Code." A text field will appear. Enter the code that appears on the back of the "Xbox Live Trial Card," then press the "Start" button. A window will appear prompting you that you are about to redeem your one month "Xbox Live" trial membership.

  Select "Confirm." Your account now has a one month "Xbox Live" membership.
