How to Modify a Gamertag

A gamertag is your online identity on Microsoft's Xbox LIVE service and is the handle that other players will see associated with your actions in online games. You can modify your gamertag through an option on the console's main menu screen. The service to modify your gamertag costs 800 Microsoft Points per use unless your original gamertag was created for you during the Xbox LIVE signup process, in which case the first use is free.

  Turn on your Xbox 360 console and wait for the console menu to load.

  Highlight your gamertag information under the "My Xbox" menu and press the "A" button.

  Select "Change Gamertag" and press the "A" button. Highlight "Enter New Gamertag" and press "A" again.

  Modify your gamertag with the virtual keyboard that appears. Press "Start" when you are finished.

  Select "Yes, use this Gamertag" and press the "A" button to confirm your modifications and pay the fee to change it.
