How to Change a Gamertag Name

A gamertag is the name that other Xbox 360 users see you as over the Xbox Live service. It is possible to change your gamertag to another that has not yet been used from within the console's menu system. To change your gamertag, you must first ensure that you have 800 Microsoft Points on your account; you will be charged this much to use the service. This can be done on a silver or gold level account.

Instructions

      Turn on your Xbox 360 console and wait for the dashboard to load.

      Go to the "My Xbox" portion of the dashboard and scroll across one space to your gamertag. Press the "A" button.

      Select "Profile", then "Edit Profile", and choose "Gamertag".

      Choose the "Enter New Gamertag" option.

      Type your new gamertag into the text field and press "Done".

      Confirm that you wish to change your gamertag and pay 800 Microsoft Points to do so.
