How to Connect a Pelican Wireless Adapter to Xbox Live

Xbox Live is Microsoft's online network for use with the Xbox 360 video game console. The Xbox Live service allows users to play online multiplayer games, download demos, downloadable game content and other video content. Microsoft has its own wireless network adapter for the Xbox, but third-party accessories are also available. Setting up the Pelican Wireless Adapter is a bit involved but simple enough to accomplish.

Instructions

  Turn off your PC's wireless connection. Connect the Pelican Wireless Adapter to your computer via Ethernet cable.

  Open the "Control Panel" from the Windows start menu, select "Network and Sharing." Click "Manage Network Connections."

  Right-click "Local Network," select "Properties." Select "IPv4" and click "Properties."

  Click "Use the follow IP address" and enter "192.168.1.222," set the "Subnet Mask" to "255.255.255.0," set the "Default Gateway" to "192.168.1.1" and click "OK."

  Launch your Web browser, enter "192.168.1.99" in the URL address bar. Enter "admin" for the user name when prompted; do not enter a password.

  Click "Wireless Settings," then "Basic Settings." Enter your home wireless network name. Click "Apply."

  Click "Security," then "Encryption Method." Enter your network password and click "Apply."

  Remove the Pelican Wireless Adapter from your computer. Connect the Pelican Wireless Adapter to your Xbox 360.

  Power on the Xbox 360 and wait at least two minutes.

  Navigate to "Network Settings" within the Xbox's main menu to test the network connection.

  Repeat Step 5 and select "Wireless Settings." Select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and click "OK."

  Select "Xbox Live" from the Xbox's main menu, click "Sign In" and log in to your Xbox Live account.
