How to Put the XBox Gamer Profile on Your Computer

The Xbox 360's gamer profile system is not limited to use on the console. Users with an Xbox Live subscription can also use the profile on a PC and share information between the two devices. With a PC profile, you can monitor Xbox Live friends and messages, edit your avatar and manage transactions and downloads. The service uses the Windows Live ID system also used by Hotmail and other Microsoft services and allows users to access their Live account and profile information from any computer.

  Check the Windows Live ID associated with your Xbox Live account. All Live accounts use a Windows Live ID as their contact email address. If you don't remember your Live ID, check it from the Xbox's main menu by selecting "My Xbox." Scroll to "Account Management" and choose "Manage Account." Open the "Windows Live ID" section to view the ID associated with your profile.

  Open a Web browser on your PC and navigate to the Xbox.com website. Click the "Sign in" button in the upper right corner. Enter your Windows Live ID email address and password into the corresponding boxes and click "Sign in."

  Click on your profile name in the top right corner to access your profile's main page. From here you can view general information about your profile and access account management features. Click on the links in the left frame to change your avatar, profile information or account settings.

  Mouse over the "My Xbox" menu to access your friends list, message inbox and list of games. Mouse over the "Games + Marketplace" to view available downloads or purchase games and game add-ons. Downloads will queue automatically for download when you next sign into Xbox Live on the console.

  Click the "Sign out" button when finished. Any changes made on the profile will be reflected on the Xbox console as well as on any other PC used with the profile.
