How to Connect an Xbox to a WiFi

WiFi networks allow you to wirelessly access the Internet using a variety of electronic devices. Depending on the size and space of your house, this is especially useful when you cannot physically connect your equipment to your network router. If you have an Xbox console, you can easily connect to a WiFi network using a WiFi adapter to enable the Xbox Live service.

Instructions

Make sure you have the SSID and WPA passkey of your wireless network router ready. The SSID is the name of your network, and the passkey is the code used to verify your connection.

    • 2

Plug the WiFi adapter into the Ethernet port on the back of your Xbox console. If you have an Xbox 360 S, your console already has a WiFi adapter built in.

    • 3

Turn on your Xbox console. Under the "My Xbox" heading, scroll through the tiles and click "System Settings."

    • 4

Select "Network Settings" from the list and click "Configure Network" from the options.

    • 5

Click on the first block of information under the "Basic Settings" tab and select "Scan for Networks." The Xbox will give you a list of available networks. Identify your network by the SSID, and select it.

    • 6

Type in your router's WPA passkey when prompted, and press "Done" to confirm.

    • 7

Press "B" to return to "Network Settings," and select "Test Xbox LIVE Connection" to ensure your console is properly connected.
