How to Use an Ethernet Cable to Hook Up a XBox Live

Xbox Live is the online matchmaking and content distribution service for the Xbox 360. Once you're connected to Xbox Live, you'll also have access to the Xbox Live Arcade, Netflix and Last.FM. The Xbox 360 supports wired (via Ethernet) and wireless connections. An Ethernet connection is generally faster and more reliable than a wireless connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the Xbox. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on the back of the Xbox 360. Connect the opposite end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet/Internet port on your broadband modem or router.

    • 2

Turn on the Xbox. Select the "My Xbox" tab. Select "Settings." Select "Network Settings."

    • 3

Select "Test Xbox Live Connection." After the test is complete and the connection is successful, you can sign in to a pre-existing Xbox Live account or create a new one from the My Xbox tab.
