How to Play XBox Live With a Mac Computer

Playing Xbox Live on a Mac computer is possible through the magic of a A/V break out box, also called a TV tuner. This hand-sized piece of electronics takes the normal output connections that a Xbox uses--whether component or HDMI--and converts them into a digital signal that can be inputed into the computer via USB. The Xbox video will then appear on the Mac computer and you can use the controllers and headset as normal.

Plug your TV tuner box into your Mac computer via USB. Slide the installation disk that came with the tuner box into the CD drive and click on "Install Software." Select the hard drive that you want to install the software and wait for the software to install. Restart your Mac to ensure that all the drivers properly install.

Connect your Xbox to the TV tuner box via the A/V cables available. Most tuners will support component connections, though the newer models will also support HDMI connections. Plug in the Xbox power only after the A/V connections have been made. Turn the Xbox on by pressing the power button on the front.

Press the connection button on the Xbox controller so that you have a remote to work with. Open the tuner software on your Mac and tell it to accept the incoming video feed. You can also select to record the feed but video eats up a lot of memory so be mindful of your storage limits.

Plug in an ethernet connection to the back of the Xbox and logon to Xbox Live.
