How to Downgrade to a Silver Membership on Xbox Live

Xbox Live, an online service for the Xbox 360 console, has two levels of membership. Xbox Live Gold is a paid subscription service that gives users access to all of the features of Xbox Live, including the ability to play games online. The Xbox Live Silver membership is a free service primarily used to download content from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Xbox Live Gold members can downgrade to Silver memberships by turning off the subscription auto renewal.

     Log in to the "My Account" section of Xbox.com using the Windows Live ID linked to your Xbox Live gamertag.

     Click "Membership Level."

     Click "ON" next to "Automatic Renewal" to change it to "OFF." Your Xbox Live Gold account will downgrade to a Silver membership during your next scheduled renewal date.
