Xbox Wireless Specs

Xbox Live users access the Internet to communicate with friends, play games and download Xbox-related content to their console. To reduce the amount of cables used to connect the console to the Internet, the Xbox can connect to a wireless router. Several things must be in place for the Xbox to successfully connect to a wireless network.
  1. Network Specifications

    • To connect the Xbox, a wireless network must already be in place. The network must include a wireless router connected to the Internet modem. The Xbox can receive the signal and communicate with most wireless routers.

    Equipment Specifications

    • The Xbox doesn't contain any equipment internally that will allow it to interpret signals from the router. An additional Xbox wireless adapter must be used with the Xbox. An Ethernet cable coming from the wireless router's LAN ports must be inserted into the Xbox wireless adapter, the adapter must also be plugged into a power supply and the antenna on the adapter must be flipped up.

    Configuring Wireless Internet

    • An Xbox Live Starter Kit disc, or an Xbox game with an Internet gaming option, must be inserted into the console to setup Xbox Live access. Then the "Network Setup" option must be selected from the Xbox menu. A username and password may be required to connect to certain networks. An Xbox Live subscription service must also be purchased and the subscription key must be entered to access Xbox Live for a specified period of time.
