PC Laptops
Type "ncpa.cpl" into the "Search" bar of your PC's "Start" menu or in the "Run" program.
Right-click on the network you are currently using.
Select "Properties" and click on the "Sharing" tab.
Check the selection marked: "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."
Press "OK" and wait for your network status to change to "Shared."
Plug one end of your Ethernet cable into your computer, and the other into the Ethernet slot on the back of your XBox console.
Test your XBox's Internet access using the "Network" page of the "System Settings" menu.
Macintosh Laptop
Type "ifconfig en0" into the Utilities field of the Applications menu. You will find the Applications menu as a sub-category of the Terminal menu. Record the eight-digit number under on the "inet" line.
Connect the XBox console to the Mac laptop with an Ethernet cable.
Scroll to XBox's System folder. Select "Network Settings." Select "Configure Network." From the "Basic Settings" tab, select the second grouping of items, labeled "IP Address," "Subnet Mask" and "Gateway." Choose the "Manual" option to input new data.
Enter the inet numbers recorded earlier into the IP Address field, but replace the last digit with one numeral higher than the original digit recorded. For example, if the last digit is "1," enter "2" for the last digit. Enter "255.255.255.0" for the Subnet Mask. The Gateway field is the original inet number recorded from the ifconfig en0 search earlier.
Go to the DNS field of the Configure Network menu. Enter your IP address into the primary and secondary fields. Do not alter the "PPPoE" and "Advanced" settings fields.
