How to Sign Up for XBox Live.

  Highlight your profile in the "My XBox" section of the XBox menu and press the "A" button.

  Highlight "Join XBox Live" from the profile options and press "A." The console will inform you that joining XBox Live requires exiting any gaming session you are currently involved with. Press "A" to confirm that you wish to continue. The XBox console will then connect to the Internet and download any necessary updates for joining XBox Live. Press "A" to select "Sign Me Up" when the console completes the connection process.

  Press the "A" button to enter the text field on the email address page. Enter the Windows Live email address you wish to use for your XBox Live account and press the "Start" button to return to the account screen. Press "A" to continue, and enter your Windows Live password when prompted. Highlight "Sign In" and press the "A" button to register the email account with XBox Live. Verify your Windows Live information and press "A" to continue. A Windows Live address can be created for free through Microsoft if necessary (see Resource).

  Read the "XBox Live Terms of Use and Privacy Statement" and press "A" to accept the terms and proceed forward with account creation. Press "A" to continue at the XBox Live feature screen.

  Highlight the subscription you wish to establish and press the "A" button. In order to purchase a Gold subscription, you will be required to enter your credit card information or use a XBox Live subscription card, available at retail. To create a free Silver account, highlight "I don't want a Gold membership" and press "A." Once you chose the account you wish to create and entered any necessary information, press "A" to confirm the choice. If you have not entered payment information to create a Gold account, you can add payment information now or later.

  Verify the contact information for your email account and press the "A" button to continue. Your name, phone number and email address are required for an XBox Live account. Check the boxes of the email offers you wish to accept, and press "A" to continue forward.

  Highlight the gamer zone you wish to enter and press the "A" button. Gamer zones describe you to other XBox Live users and indicate the experience you wish to have from options such as "Recreation," "Pro" and "Family." The gamer zone you choose will be displayed on your profile.

  Review the account information you have entered and press the "A" button to continue. The screen will display the account level you have chosen, your email, date of birth and email offers you have signed up to receive.

  Enter the gamertag you wish to use into the text field displayed. Gamertags must be unique, and will be displayed instead of your name on XBox Live. The console will suggest available names if the one you enter is not available.

  Press the "A" button to submit your account information to XBox Live. Once the account has been created, you will be asked to choose the gamer picture you want to display on XBox Live. Press the "A" button to select the picture you wish to use from the available images. Once you have chosen a gamer picture, your XBox Live account is complete and ready to be used.
