Determine whether you need an Xbox Live wireless adapter. If you are using an "Arcade," "Pro" or "Elite" Xbox 360 model, you will need an Xbox 360 adapter. These adapters can be purchased at any gaming store and most electronics stores and can be plugged directly into the wireless port on the back of your console. If you have an "S" model Xbox 360, you will not need an adapter. Note: Only Xbox 360-branded adapters will work with the Xbox 360 console.

Start up your console and go to the "My Xbox" tab. Then navigate to the "System Settings" tab.

Select "Network Settings" from the menu followed by "Configure Network". Then go to "Basic Settings" and highlight "Wireless Mode" and press "A."

Select "Scan for Networks." The Xbox 360 will automatically detect any wireless networks in range. If you use a secure connection, you will need to enter the type as well as the network key to proceed. Then press "A" again.
