How to Connect to Xbox Live With a USB 3G Modem

Xbox Live is a subscription service through Microsoft that allows users to connect with other players to play Xbox games online. The console requires an active Internet connection through your home Internet connection. 3G USB modems allow you to connect a computer to your 3G Internet service, which is generally provided by a cell phone provider or Internet service provider. The modem cannot be connected directly to the Xbox, but a connection through the 3G service can be achieved.

  Turn on the computer and connect the USB modem to an available USB port on the computer. If the modem has a power button, press it once to power on the device.

  Connect the Xbox Ethernet cable to the network jack on the rear of the gaming console. Connect the other end to your computer&'s Ethernet jack or Network card jack. Turn on the Xbox.

  Click on "Start" on the Windows desktop, followed by "Settings" or "Control Panel." Select "Network Setup" or "Network Connections."

  Double-click on the "Network Connections Wizard." Click "Next" twice to skip through the first two setup screens. Check off the box next to "Ignore disconnected hardware" and click "Next."

  Select "This computer connects directly to the Internet..." and click "Next." Click on your "USB modem" from the list of available modem options. Click "Next" to proceed.

  Select the "Ethernet" or "NIC" option on the next screen. Verify that the check box next to this option is checked off. Click on "Next." Then click on "Next" until you reach the File and Printer Sharing screen. Select the option to "Turn off sharing" and click "Next."

  Wait for the computer to complete the setup and select the "Just finish the wizard..." option followed by "Next" or "Finish."

  Navigate to the "Xbox Live" option on the "Xbox Dashboard" screen and sign into your Xbox Live account.
