How to Set Up XBox Live Using an Ethernet Cable

Microsoft Xbox 360 owners can use their consoles to connect to Xbox Live to play games against peers, download new and classic games, rent movies from Netflix and much more.Thankfully, the process of getting online is not too complicated. If you not want to invest in a wireless-networking adapter you can use an Ethernet cable to connect to Xbox Live by following a few steps.

Three Ethernet cables
Modem
Router

  Decide on the type of connection you want to make. If you do not need to share the connection with a PC you can connect directly to the modem, If you use a computer at home with an Internet connection the best method is to use a router so that both the computer and your Xbox 360 can share the connection.

  Connect an end of the Ethernet cable to the same-named port on your modem. Connect the other end to the Uplink or WAN port on the router.

  Connect the second Ethernet cable to the Ethernet LAN port on the router and the other end to the same-named port on your computer.

  Plug one end of the third Ethernet cable to another Ethernet LAN port on the router and the other end fo the same port on the back of your Xbox 360 console.

  Turn on the Xbox 360 and access the dashboard. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your connection. You may have to enter information from your Internet service provider (ISP). Do this in the "System Settings" area under the "My Xbox" tab.
