Setting Up a Router for the Xbox

Xbox Live, Microsoft's service that allows users to play and retrieve information on the Internet, provides opportunities for gamers that otherwise are not available. Using a router to connect an Xbox to the Internet is one of the more reliable methods to use Xbox Live. Sharing a connection with your PC, your Xbox will not suffer from wireless interferences or unreliable networking. With specific Xbox Live-compatible games, players can quickly be playing alongside others from around the world.

     Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to your modem; connect the other end to the router. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the back port of your Xbox and the other end to the router.

     Turn the console on. Go to the "System" folder after the machine boots up. Select "Network Settings" and then "Text Xbox Live Connection" to make sure your setup works.

     Select "Yes, Update Now" when your connection is accepted. Wait for the system to be updated before playing online.
