How to Fix XBox 360 Xplorer Guitar Fret Buttons

Few video games are more fun to play with friends than "Guitar Hero" for the Xbox 360. The controller for this game isn't your average gamepad. It is a plastic guitar-shaped controller that comes in various styles, such as the X-Plorer. The buttons for these controllers, located on the neck of the guitar, are prone to damage over time. The good news is that if your X-Plorer guitar controller is having problems, you can fix it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your X-Plorer controller from your Xbox 360, remove the guitar strap if it's attached and turn the controller over.

    • 2

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove each of the screws from the neck and body of the guitar controller.

    • 3

Insert your fingers in the seam between the front and back halves of the guitar neck. Then pry the back half of the guitar neck from the front and set it aside.

    • 4

Use your screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the button panel in the neck of the guitar in place.

    • 5

Lift the button panel out of the neck of the guitar and remove the soft pad covering the back of the buttons. Then physically remove any of the plastic buttons you've been having problems with from the neck of the guitar.

    • 6

Use a cotton swab to clean any dirt or debris from each button. Then use a pair of pliers to strip the buttons of any excess plastic that may be causing problems.

    • 7

Place the buttons back in the neck of the guitar and reassemble your X-Plorer in the reverse order you took it apart.
