How to Play an XBox 360 Live for Free

Xbox Live is a popular online gaming service offered by Microsoft for the Xbox and Xbox 360. The silver membership is free and allows you to download content, but does not allow you to play your games online with and against other players. The gold membership allows this, but at a month by month price of $7.99, or by subscribing for an entire year at a slight discount. However, Microsoft includes the possibility of 1-month gold free trials with the creation of new game profiles. You can create a total of 3 different game profiles and use 3 1-month gold free trials before having to purchase the Xbox Live gold service to play the online multiplayer portions of games.

  Turn on your Xbox 360. Ensure that either the Xbox 360 is directly connected to a router or is equipped with a wireless adapter.

  Sign into an existing profile or create a new one. Select "Join Xbox Live" from the main menu.

  Fill out the required information. Your name, address, email address and other personal information will be collected.

  Select silver membership. Confirm your membership. Selecting the silver membership is always free, but in selecting the silver you will also receive a one month free trial for the gold membership, which you can use to play multiplayer games on Xbox Live. This method does not work if you've previously subscribed to either Xbox Live memberships on that particular profile.
