Canceling Live on the Web
Visit the Xbox Live customer support page (see resources below) and log in using the information registered to your Live account. If you are unable to remember your login information, you'll need to cancel over the phone.
Click the "My Account" tab on the navigation bar.
Select "Membership Level" on the left side of the screen. Your current Gold information will appear in the right frame.
Locate the "Automatic Renewal" line and click "ON." Click "Next" on the following three screens to skip over the sales pitch. Eventually, you will reach a screen that has the details of your automatic renewal.
Click "OFF," then hit the "Next" button. Your credit card no longer will be charged for Xbox Live Gold.
Canceling Live on the Phone
Call Xbox customer support at (800) 4MY-XBOX or (800) 469-9269. They are available seven days a week, 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern Time.
Say "Accounts and Billing" when prompted by the automated answering service. On the next menu, say "Xbox Live."
Give the automated answering system the information requested. It will ask for your registered phone number, last name and zip code before connecting you to a live representative.
Ask the customer service representative to cancel your Xbox Live account. You no longer should be billed for Live Gold.
