How to Use System Link With XBox Live

The original Xbox and Xbox 360 consoles feature system link capabilities. This allows for multiple consoles to be connected together. Players on each console can play against each other as long as they are playing the same game. Even original Xbox systems can be linked to Xbox 360s as long as the game being played is an original Xbox title with supported play for the Xbox 360. Certain Xbox 360 titles can be played using system link and Xbox Live, allowing linked players access to Xbox Live competitive play.

Things You'll Need

2 Xbox 360 consoles
2 Xbox Live Gold accounts
2 Wireless Adapters
Wireless network router
2 copies of a game
2 TVs
Ethernet crossover cable

Instructions

  Make sure that all equipment is tuned off. Connect one Xbox 360 to one of the Television sets. Connect the other Xbox 360 to the other television set.

  Connect the two Xbox 360s together by plugging the Ethernet crossover cable into the Ethernet ports on the back of both consoles.

  Connect your Xbox 360 wireless routers to each system by attaching them to the system and plugging them in via the USB port directly above the Ethernet port on the back on of the console.

  Turn on the television sets and both of the Xbox 360 consoles.

  Insert the game discs into the Xbox 360 consoles by pressing the "eject" buttons next to the disc trays on the front side of the consoles. Drop the disc into the tray, and press the "eject" button again to close the disc tray.

  Sign into Xbox Live by clicking the Guide Button on the Xbox 360 controller. Press the "X" button on the menu, and choose the Gamertag you wish to use. Both players should do this on their respective console using different Gamertags.

  Click the "Play Game" option on the Xbox 360 Dashboard to load the game.

  Click the Guide button on the Xbox 360 controller once the game has loaded and select the "Party" option from the Xbox Guide. In the Party menu select "Invite Players to Party." Choose the friends who are connected through the system link.

  Choose "Invite Party to Game" option from the Party menu once you have added all of the people you want to play with to the party.
