How to Make Potions in Morrowind on Xbox

The "Alchemy" skill in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind allows you to mix ingredients together to make potions, each of which yields a variety of positive and negative effects when used. You can also concoct potions using relatively useless ingredients, in order to sell them to merchants (in many cases, the value of a potion will be more than the combined price of each individual component). Making potions will also help raise your Alchemy skill.

Alembic (optional)
Retort (optional)
Calcinator (optional)

Instructions

  Press the "Back" button on your Xbox controller to open the menu.

  Select the Mortar and Pestle from your inventory by pressing the "A" button (you must have this item to make potions). This will open the Alchemy window.

  Equip a Retort, Alembic, and Calcinator by selecting the empty squares under "Apparatus" in the Alchemy window. These are optional, but will improve the quality of the potion you make. The Retort increases the strength and duration length of any positive effects on the potion. The Alembic decreases the strength and duration length of any negative effects on the potion. The Calcinator increases the magnitude and duration length of every effect on the potion. These are tools that are not used up when each potion is made.

  Select two to four ingredients by selecting the empty squares under "Ingredients" in the Alchemy window. The effects the potion will make with the equipped ingredients will be shown under "Created Effects," on the right side of the Alchemy window. Any effect present in at least two of your ingredients will be added to the potion. Ingredients are used up when the potion is made.

  Press the "Create" button to attempt to make the potion. It is possible to fail at making the potion if you have too low of an Alchemy skill. There is no indicator of how difficult a particular potion is to make.
