If you are new to Xbox LIVE, you might want to consider the Xbox LIVE Messenger Gold Pack, which contains a 12-month subscription to the service, a headset with a microphone to communicate with other players, and a game that is playable over the multiplayer network. Prepaid subscription cards are also available in one-month, three-month and twelve-month increments.

  Pick a retailer. Subscription cards can be bought at most mass-market retailers like Walmart, Kmart and Target, as well as specialty video game retailers such as GameStop and Electronics Boutique. You can also purchase subscription cards online from sites like Amazon.com and Buy.com.

  Purchase the subscription of your choice. Pricing will vary among the different retailers and not all retailers will carry all the subscription card options. If the retailer you choose does not carry the particular subscription card you want to purchase, check with another.
