Xbox Live is the online gaming platform developed in 2002 by Microsoft for the Xbox game console. With the launch of the Xbox 360 in 2005, it also became a content-delivery system that allowed players to download new levels, purchase and download games and download other media such as television shows, movies and music. The Gamertag is your unique identity on the Xbox Live network. On the original Xbox, the Gamertag was permanent and could not be changed; however, with the début of the Xbox 360 and subsequent launch of the new Xbox Live system, you are no longer stuck with a Gamertag you may have outgrown or simply grown tired of.

Sign in to Xbox Live with the Gamertag you wish to change.

Scroll to "My Xbox," and open your Xbox Live profile.

Click "Continue" after you have read the information about changing your Gamertag.

Enter your new Gamertag, and press "done."

Review and confirm the change you have made. This action will deduct 800 Microsoft Points from your balance and complete your Gamertag change.
