How to Create Original Gamertags

Within the Xbox Live community, your gamertag is your online identity. It allows other players to identify you, add you to their friend lists and call your name aloud over the mic. As such, it's important to create an original, convenient gamertag that others are likely to remember and later recognize.

Instructions

  Visit GamertagCreator.com. Gamertag Creator suggests gamertags and checks Xbox.com's servers to see if any given name is available.

  Click the "I like it," "I don't like it" or "Refresh" buttons under the "Really Random Gamertags" tab to generate random gamertags. Click "Check status" to see if the gamertag is already in use or not.

  Click the "Refresh" button under the "Suggested Gamertags" tab to view gamertags suggested by others. Click "Check Status" to check a name's availability.

  Visit CheckGamertag.com if you want to check the availability of a name you created yourself. Enter the name under "Check Availability," then click "Check" to see if it's in use. CheckGamertag.com is not affiliated with Microsoft and only searches Xbox.com's databases to determine whether gamertags exist.

  Sign in to Xbox LIVE on the Xbox 360 with the gamertag you wish to change. Navigate to "My Xbox" and select your gametag, then select "Change Gamertag."

  Select "Enter New Gamertag" or "Get Suggestions" if you are still unsure what you want your new gamertag to be. When finished, select "Yes, use this gamertag."
