Linking an Xbox Gamertag to an Xbox Live Account

Originally released in late 2005, the Xbox 360 console bases a significant portion of its game play on downloaded games and multiplayer games. To access either of these features, you must have an Xbox Live account. If you already have a Windows Live account and a gamertag, you can link the two by joining Xbox Live. When you sign up, you begin with a silver membership, which is free.

Instructions

      Sign in to your profile with the gamertag you wish to link.

      Press "A" on your avatar under the "My Xbox" menu option.

      Pick "Join Xbox Live," which is the first option on the list.

      Provide the requested information, which includes the Windows Live login information to which you wish to link your gamertag.

    • 5

      Provide your name and billing address. Select "Continue" to complete joining Xbox Live, linking your gamertag and account together permanently.
