How to Change Your Player Preference on Xbox Live

With the Xbox 360, you can create several profiles on a single console, making it convenient for multiple people to play at the same time. Each profile has its own gamerscore and achievements, and you can add an avatar, a motto and a bio to each profile. You can also customize other settings for each profile, designating one as the automatic log-in gamertag when the console is powered on and changing default controller settings for particular types of games.

  Sign into Xbox Live under the profile whose preferences you want to change.

  Select the "My Xbox" tab. Move to the right to your player profile and press "A." Select "Profile" and press "A."

  Scroll down to "Sign-in Preferences" and press "A." Choose "On" to automatically sign into Xbox Live and Messenger with this account or "Off" to disable automatic sign-in. Press "B" to return to the prior screen.

  Scroll to "Game Defaults" and press "A." Choose controller, audio and video settings for racing, action and general games. For example, you can set the transmission default in driving games to automatic or manual. Press the "B" button until you return to the "Profile" menu.

  Press the "Guide" button on the controller. Scroll to the "Settings" tab and select "Preferences." Select "Online Status" to change your status for Xbox Live and Windows Live Messenger to online, away, busy or appear offline. Press "B" to go back.

  Select "Notifications" to allow or disable onscreen messages during game play and while watching videos. Press "B" to back out of this screen.

  Press the "Guide" button and then press "X" to sign out from your current profile. Press "Guide" again and select another profile to change the settings on that profile.
