How Do I Retrieve My Gamer Tag?

Your Xbox Live profile, or gamertag, helps online friends to identify you, and keeps a tally of your game achievements through your gamerscore. Your gamertag can be linked to only one console at a time, and if you get a new Xbox 360, or want to play as yourself on another console, you have to recover your gamertag on that device. Xbox also allows you to transfer your licenses for games and add-ons purchased through its marketplace to a new console, so you can download those items again without an additional charge. However, you can only do so once every 121 days.

Instructions

    • 1

      Start up your Xbox 360.

    • 2

Press the "Guide" button in the center of your controller. If you are logged into a profile, press the "X" button to sign out.

    • 3

Press the "Guide" button again. Scroll down to "Recover Gamertag," and press the "A" button.

    • 4

Press the "A" button again. Select "Yes" to end your current game session, and press the "A" button. Select "Continue," and press "A."

    • 5

Type in the email address associated with your Xbox Live account using the on-screen keyboard, then press the "Start" button.

    • 6

Type in the password for your Xbox Live account, and press the "Start" button.

    • 7

Select your time zone, if prompted, and press the "A" button. Wait for your gamertag to download to the console.
